A delta robot solution that is no more difficult to integrate into your system than any other standard automation component? Mark Simms takes a look at the latest part of Omron’s innovative Sysmac platform. These days machine builders who develop machines for the packaging industry are facing ever increasing challenges to provide designs that will
Everyone knows that quality is important: it’s what keeps customers happy and what builds and maintains brand values. But to really differentiate a business, to set it apart from other machine makers, passion has to be more than mere words. It’s easy to say “we care about quality” – but what’s needed is a passion, the kind of enthusiasm that ensures quality underpins everything that the machine-maker does.
And everything means everything – every last aspect of the business and the machines it builds. Quality in product development and manufacturing are not enough, because customers have a right to expect that. A real passion for quality shows in:
• systems and support
• delivery and after-sales service
• supplier relationships
• social responsibility
• the speed with which the phone is answered or the email is acknowledged
• the accuracy with which orders are fulfilled
There are international standards for quality assurance such as ISO9001: but they should be the minimum, not the objective. Successful machine makers look at quality assurance standards and see how they can be bettered, not just matched. Perhaps most importantly, machine makers with a real passion for quality share it with end-users, with suppliers and with other stakeholders.
A passion for quality can help to create zero-defect manufacturing processes that make product recalls and final inspection routines a thing of the past. And this in turn will deliver better machines, more satisfied customers and reduced costs.
