Discover how you can make your factory industry 4.0 proof at Hannover Messe A futuristic, completely-connected industrial world is already taking shape, and data integration is a key enabler for you to minimize costs and ensure that final products will be better aligned with your customer preferences. Collecting and storing production data also offers you many
While stationary robots are well-established and important parts of many factories and production plants, mobile platforms and manipulators will become an integral part of your factory of the future.
At the Industrial Automation Forum at Hannover Messe, Bruno Adam, our Mobile Business Director Europe, answers how the manufacturing process is evolving and why factories, driven by greater product customisation, will move from traditional linear models of conveyors and autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs) to more intelligent types of mobile robots.

What does automation and digitalization mean to you?
It is a fact that automation and digitalization can bring a huge benefit to your production lines on the factory floor. The same techniques are also used to automate efficiently your warehouses for components and semi-finished goods as well as the finished ones.
However you might observe a significant amount of manual handling within the intra-logistics between semi-finished to production and end of line and finished good warehousing prior to shipment. AGV’s have replaced in some places the manual cart but the inflexibility of such solutions have opened the way to the next generation of mobile robotics: the Autonomous Intelligent Vehicles (AIV). AIVs offer you more flexibility.
The latter relies on a novel intelligent and dynamic navigation algorithm to travel in a safe way along an optimized path. This gives flexibility to your production environment, since there is absolutely no need to modify the workspace or install markers or sensors along the path. The AIV can also function as a fleet within dedicated fleet management software to optimize the flow of goods and operational efficiency.
The AIVs can be customised to your applications
Taking the Omron LD AIVs as an example, the AIVs can be set up in a number of different ways according to your needs. The base of the AIV stays the same, but the upper part can be changed to suit your application.
Our mobile robots are fully autonomous intelligent vehicles that bring myriad benefits to you:
- increase throughput
- reduce machine dwell time
- eliminate errors
- improve material traceability
- allow your employees to focus on tasks that require complex human skills
What’s more? Unlike traditional AGVs, our mobile robots navigate by the natural features of the facility and require no expensive facility modification.
