At the UK’s 2013 Total Processing and Packaging Exhibition Omron showed a ‘smile calibrator’ with OKAO technology designed to measure, compare and even calibrate the smiles of visitors. People were invited to check the quality of their smile and even compare it against that of a friend. This article was featured in the Controls, Drives
Next level human-machine harmony
Omron’s Driver Monitoring Sensor for autonomous driving has been designed for a future in which a car acts optimally in accordance with the driver’s state – enabling you to move safely and securely. It underlines our vision for a better future society and the role that our advanced technology can play to improve your daily life.
The core technology of our new Driver Monitoring Sensor is based on the World’s first on-board sensor featuring cutting-edge AI that we introduced in 2016. We deploy proprietary image sensing technology with time-series deep learning to sense the driver’s various motions and conditions. Our “driver concentration sensing technology” uses on-board cameras for real-time detection of whether you are in a suitable condition for driving.
Conditions can change during driving resulting in accidents. We are dedicated to use our technological innovations to further advance assisted and automated driving to help make our roads a much safer place for all of us. Our smart system makes it possible to control a vehicle based on your condition by, for example, safely switching between automated and manual driving and safely bringing the vehicle to a stop if something happens to you. This way we assist you with safe driving and enhance safety.
Using real-time sensing of the driver with multiple cameras and sensors the various motions and conditions are categorized as “driving handover levels” based on “how much time would be needed to resume driving”.
From the driving direction or facial expression to the heartbeat of the person. The numbers and criteria of levels can be adjusted based on your preferences, making the technology applicable to a broad range of vehicle models. A tiny closed on-board system for big safety improvements.
